It often requires three people to assist one handicapped child on a horse. One person leads the horse while two walk on either side of the rider to assure a safe ride. Volunteers contribute in many other ways as well. In addition to serving as instructors and working with the children, volunteers communicate with the parents, keeping them informed of the child's progress and offering suppport and encouragement. Because we are a family here at The I.E.T, our volunteers, instructors, students and parents all work together in the process of helping and learning. Volunteering at The I.E.T. is an excellent opportunity for a college internship for anyone studying education, child psychology or animal husbandry. Our volunteers have the satisfaction of knowing that they're giving their time and their love to help a handicapped student. They also have a chance to enjoy our beautiful horses!
We never have too many helpers. If you would like more information, please call us at 805-991-9633 or email us at equestriantherapy@yahoo.com
