More about this center
About the Program
The equine sessions take place on the ground in Cocoa and do not involve riding. Equine work runs from September to May, and no prior experience with horses is needed. Options include equine-assisted psychotherapy, Equine Assisted-EMDR using the EquiLateral protocol, EQUUSOMA sessions focused on trauma, and EAGALA-model sessions, which use a team approach with a mental health professional and an equine specialist.
Clients who already have a therapist can book adjunct equine-assisted psychotherapy or EquiLateral sessions with a referral from their current mental health provider. Adjunct sessions do not replace current treatment. The practice also offers office sessions, including EMDR, in Melbourne and telehealth in PSYPACT states.
The Clinician
Dr. Jenkins-Fernández is an EMDRIA Certified Clinician, an EquiLateral provider in both the mental health and equine professional roles, and an EAGALA mental health professional and equine specialist with a military provider designation. She has completed EQUUSOMA Level 1 training and has practiced since 2006. She has developed equine-assisted programs at VA medical centers and is a U.S. Air Force veteran.
