More about this center
About the Program
Winslow is an agency of the CLC Foundation and says its work is "devoted to individuals with disabilities residing in the Hudson Valley," along with northern New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Connecticut. Adaptive lessons are taught by PATH Intl. certified instructors and are tailored to each rider. Private, semi-private (2-3 riders) and group (4-5 riders) lessons are offered in half-hour and one-hour lengths.
Hippotherapy is offered through a partnership with Positive PT LLC, with sessions conducted by physical therapists, occupational therapists or speech-language pathologists, or their assistants, according to the site. Equine-assisted counseling is provided by Martha Dubensky, a Licensed Professional Counselor and PATH Intl. Equine Specialist in Mental Health and Learning, and Lilly Spencer, LCSW.
Adult Day Program
The Adult Day Program serves adults with disabilities age 21 and older each weekday. Activities listed include riding and horse care, gardening, cooking, caring for goats and chickens, arts and crafts, music therapy, chair yoga and field trips. Enrollment is open year-round; the site lists Rebecca at (845) 986-6686 or rebecca@winslow.org as the contact.
The Horses and Staff
Executive Director Susan Ferro and Program Director Stacy Lenz, a PATH Intl. Advanced Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor, lead a staff that includes several PATH Intl. certified instructors and a music therapist. The 100-acre farm has indoor and outdoor arenas, a greenhouse, a Monarch butterfly garden and other farm animals. Winslow says it offers two instructor training programs during the year.
Volunteering
Volunteers help during weekly lessons and must be at least 13. No horse experience is needed. Contact the volunteer coordinator at volunteer@winslow.org.
Location
Winslow is at 1433 Route 17A, Warwick, NY 10990, in Orange County. Riding takes place in an indoor arena in winter and an outdoor arena in warmer months.
