More about this center
About the Program
According to its website, lessons use specially trained horses, and an indoor arena allows riding year-round. Riding runs Monday through Saturday by appointment, and school and group sessions are held throughout the year. The site says instructors hold A.R.I.C.P. certification and that staff and volunteers are CPR and first-aid certified. Recreational lessons cover hunt seat, dressage and jumping.
The center lists hippotherapy among its programs. Adaptive riding and hippotherapy participants are evaluated first to make sure mounted work is safe for them. Linda Fazio is the executive director.
Equine Simulators
The center has Synergy, a dressage simulator made by Racewood that walks, trots and canters, responds to leg, seat and rein aids, and gives computerized feedback on the rider's performance. An NBC10 Philadelphia report said most of the simulator's $67,000 cost was funded by an Ocean County grant. The site also lists a second simulator, Patronus, and simulator groups.
Horses for Heroes
This program is for active duty, reserve and veteran military members with a documented disability who can keep their sitting balance without help. Activities can be mounted or unmounted, in a group or private setting, with goals set for each participant. To sign up, talk with your therapist or physician, or call (732) 657-2710 and ask for Executive Director Linda. Learn more about equine therapy for veterans.
Volunteering and Camp
The summer horse camp teaches riding along with grooming, tacking up, feeding and barn care. Volunteers can sign up through the forms page on the center's website, which also lists sponsorship and wish-list donation options.
