More about this center

About the Program

A group of Bedford residents founded Endeavor in 2014. The center lists itself as a PATH Intl. Premier Accredited Center and an Eagala Designated Military Services Provider, and says it is the only therapeutic horsemanship center in the United States holding both designations.

Therapeutic horsemanship lessons combine riding skills such as mounting, steering, posting and jumping with ground work such as grooming, leading and horse care. Lessons are 45 minutes, once a week, year-round, either private or in groups of four or fewer.

Veterans and First Responders

According to its website, veteran programming is offered at no cost to the veteran, spouse or family member, and the program supports more than 300 veterans a year. Sessions include equine-assisted psychotherapy using the Eagala model, ground horsemanship, a Saturday farm chores group, and therapeutic riding or vocational training on request.

The center says these sessions are run by a PATH and/or Eagala certified equine specialist together with a licensed mental health provider. It also holds weekend retreats, a veteran family day, and support days for first responders and correctional officers.

Schools and Community Groups

Equine-assisted learning sessions for schools are tailored to classroom goals, often social-emotional learning, and can take place at the farm or virtually. The Pathways program brings groups from residential and day facilities for ground horsemanship, riding and vocational volunteering, with a licensed clinical social worker available when appropriate.

Getting Started

For therapeutic horsemanship, families email a waiver and physician's form to program@endeavorth.org, then schedule a 20 to 30 minute evaluation that includes a farm tour and meeting the horses (no riding). Riders are then placed on the waitlist for the current session and enrolled in a following one. Enrollment opens quarterly.

The website lists therapeutic horsemanship at $100 per lesson. The Charlie Rose Memorial Scholarship is available, and families who need help with the cost can apply.

Location

Endeavor is at 556 Croton Lake Road, Bedford Corners, NY 10549. According to its website, the farm has fenced paddocks, barns, a large riding arena and a herd of 15 horses. Staff also travel to some partner facilities.
