More about this center

About the Program

The center lists itself as a PATH Intl. Premier Accredited Center, and WTOC reported in September 2024 that it had been reaccredited at that level. A 2022 Effingham Herald article said it was one of seven Premier centers in Georgia and the only one in the southern half of the state.

Its main offering is therapeutic riding. Effingham Magazine described lessons built around each rider's goals, such as social skills, confidence and riding ability. The website lists HorsePowered Reading, an equine-assisted learning program run with local schools.

History

The center was founded in 2006, and IRS records show its tax exemption dates to that year. According to the Effingham Herald, it began with two children and three horses on five acres, and before the pandemic it served more than 125 riders a year on 10 acres. COVID-19 paused lessons and fundraising. The Herald reported in 2022 that the center had new staff, volunteers and board members.

Volunteering

Volunteers play a major role in daily operations, according to WTOC. The Effingham Herald noted that high school students are asked to volunteer first so staff can gauge their horse knowledge.

Location

The center is at 243 Appaloosa Way, Guyton, GA 31312, in Effingham County. Its website describes it as just outside Savannah. Effingham Magazine reported in 2021 that riding takes place in a covered outdoor arena, with classroom work held indoors.
