More about this center

About the Program

Freedom Ride says its riding and equine-facilitated learning programs are for people ages 5 and up with diagnosed cognitive or physical disabilities. Sessions last 45 minutes, can be individual or group, and are taught by a PATH Intl. Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor with one to three volunteers per rider. Goals are set at the start of each semester.

Its equine-assisted psychotherapy program is ground-based and, according to the website, conducted by a licensed mental health professional with an equine specialist. It is aimed at veterans coping with service-related stress, trauma, anxiety, depression or adjustment challenges, and others facing mental health challenges. Wellness groups serve up to ten veterans or participants from mental and behavioral health programs.

Getting Started

New riders complete the New Rider Registration packet from the Forms tab and return the originals to the office, which then schedules a New Rider Evaluation to match a horse, volunteers and a time slot. A place on the schedule is confirmed only after the evaluation.

As listed on its website, the evaluation costs $75 and riding sessions cost $75 each. Fees for psychotherapy and wellness groups are not published.
