More about this center

About the Program

According to Southlake Style, sessions include riding, playing games and helping out, and are held on Saturdays. Community Impact reported in 2024 that about 45 students took lessons each week with four instructors, a volunteer coordinator and volunteers, and that riders can start as young as 3.

The program's North Texas Giving Day page says it offers scholarships so no child is turned away because of cost, and that riders compete each January at the Chisholm Challenge during the Fort Worth Stock Show. It does not list hippotherapy or other clinical therapy, so families should treat it as a therapeutic riding program.

History

Local coverage says Doreen Bruton founded the nonprofit in 2011 after earning a PATH certification. Bruton started Ride With Pride Horsemanship School in 1980 on her family's property on Highland Street. The program is named after Amy Stefanko, who had taken riding classes with Bruton as a young child and was later introduced to therapeutic riding after serious illness, including leukemia.

Volunteering

According to Southlake Style, volunteers prepare horses, set up games and walk beside riders during lessons. These side walkers are the "wings" in the program's name. The website has a Volunteer link.
