About the Program
According to its website, therapeutic riding sessions last an hour and focus on the rider's physical and emotional well-being, using games, exercises and activities matched to each rider's age and skill. Lessons take place in the riding yard, a covered arena and sensory trails, and a lesson can have one rider or up to five, depending on each person's abilities and needs.
The center rides all year, Tuesday through Saturday, by appointment. Riders come once or twice a week on the same day and time each week. According to its website, the center has two PATH Intl. certified instructors, along with volunteers and specially trained horses, and it describes itself as a PATH certified therapeutic riding center.
History
Michael and Ruby Harris founded the program in 2002 on what had been a foundation Quarter Horse breeding farm, starting with the five horses they owned. The name comes from Mephibosheth, Saul's grandson in the book of Samuel, a man with a disability to whom King David showed kindness. The center lists Megan Bost as program director.
