More about this center
About the Program
The Take Flight equestrian program centers on weekly one-hour group riding lessons for students ages 3 to 70. Riders are matched with a suitable horse, learn horsemanship theory adapted to their needs, and groom and care for their horse. Unmounted lessons on ground work and herd management are also offered. Adaptive carriage driving is available for people who may not be suited to riding or who want a different discipline.
The Pegasus Vaulting Club, formed in 2000, is a unified team of Take Flight participants and community youth that combines dance and gymnastics on a moving horse. The farm also runs one-time or multi-session programs for school districts and classroom teachers, and partners with other organizations serving youth with behavioral challenges, including a ten-week summer program with Stark County Family Court.
Summer camps offer 3-day and 5-day half-day horsemanship and vaulting sessions for students with or without disabilities, at $153 to $350 per session as listed.
Wings and the Military and First Responders Center
Wings Adult Day Services provides vocational and recreational programming for adults with developmental disabilities, funded through Ohio's Waiver program. Participants can work as farm, stable or horticultural assistants or in the Pegasus Farm Country Store, and take part in grooming and carriage driving.
The Military and First Responders Center serves veterans, active-duty military, first responders and their families at no cost. The farm lists one-on-one time with horses, family events, exercise and counseling. See also equine therapy for veterans.
