More about this center

About the Program

RSTH says its riding lessons teach riding skills alongside each client's therapeutic goals, and that all lessons are taught by PATH Intl. certified instructors. Trained sidewalkers and horse leaders assist when needed, and safety equipment is provided. Most lessons run 45 to 60 minutes, and clients usually ride once a week from Monday through Friday.

Its equine-assisted learning sessions, led by PATH Intl. credentialed staff, focus on personal growth, emotion regulation, leadership, communication and teamwork.

Getting Started

New clients complete an online application and a physician-signed medical release, then call to book an evaluation. The evaluation takes about 30 minutes with an instructor and covers goals and class times. Clients do not ride but must wear closed-toe shoes.

Enrollment is by semester, typically 6 to 8 weeks, in Spring I, Spring II, Summer, Fall I and Fall II sessions. The center does not offer one-time lessons or trail rides.

Staff and Volunteers

The center lists co-founder Heather Hernandez Sedillo as executive director and Richard "RD" Sedillo as head instructor and equine manager. Volunteers can serve as sidewalkers, horse leaders, arena prep helpers or office help after an application, background screening and orientation. Volunteers must be 14 or older to help in class, and no horse experience is needed.

Location

The center is at 7126 FM 359 Road, Richmond, Texas 77406, and serves Fort Bend County and the greater west Houston area.
