More about this center
About the Program
According to its website, Serendipity's mission is to improve life skills and quality of life for people with special needs through horseback riding and farm-based education. It is a PATH International Center Member, follows PATH safety guidelines and has PATH-certified instructors. Riding lessons are tailored to each rider's needs, with goals around independence, life skills and social, physical and emotional well-being.
Farm-based education uses farm work and time with the animals to teach responsibility, respect and generosity, in group days with participants of similar ages. A weekly adult group builds social and vocational skills on the farm. Stable Moments is a trauma-informed equine-assisted learning and community mentorship program for foster and adopted children who have experienced early developmental trauma.
The Horses and Staff
Founder and director Sarah Russoniello is a PATH Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor (2013) and PATH Equine Specialist in Mental Health and Learning (2016), and has completed Stable Moments certification. Staff member Matt holds Pennsylvania teaching certifications in early childhood, secondary English and special education. Volunteers with horse experience help with chores around the farm.
The Meet the Horses page profiles the center's horses and ponies, including quarter horses, a paint gelding and a gaited pony. Several of the older horses are retired.
