According to its website, Harmony Farms has worked with people with disabilities for more than 33 years and emphasizes "ability, not disability." Lessons combine riding instruction with games and exercises. The site says the horse's movement is similar to human walking and can help with balance, flexibility and muscle strength.
Harmony Farms describes itself as a member of PATH Intl. It also says it is an off-campus training site for several university and medical programs. Funding comes from donations, grants, rider fees and fundraising events.

Volunteering
Volunteers must be at least 13. No horse experience is needed, as the farm provides training. Volunteers help with horse care and riding sessions, where many riders need a horse leader and two side walkers, and also with fundraising, grounds maintenance and administration. The volunteer page says you can register in advance with its online form or come to a riding session and see volunteer coordinator Terri Carr.

How do I enroll a rider?
Email info@harmonyfarmsinc.com. The farm sends a Potential Rider Questionnaire and then schedules an evaluation, which does not involve riding. Medical clearance and a history and diagnosis from a physician or therapist are required, and there is a waiting list.
What ages can ride?
No age limit is published. The website says riders have ranged from 4 to 87, and eligibility depends on disability, ability and availability.
How much do lessons cost?
