More about this center

About the Program

The center's stated mission is "to provide equine assisted activities improving the mind, body, and spirit through horsemanship skills." According to its website, it was founded in 2011, and weekly lessons work on posture, balance, focus, concentration and life skills, with instruction tailored to each rider's learning style.

Horses for Heroes is a free program of mounted and ground activities for veterans, active-duty military and first responders; an Atlantic County resource guide lists it as an 8-week program. The center also runs curriculum for school, community and at-risk groups that it says meets educational standards, and offers yoga on horseback led by instructor Sharon Garland-Sweeten. Local news has reported Quality of Life grant support from the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation.

The Horses and Staff

HEARTS TRC describes itself as a PATH Intl. compliant facility and says all of its instructors are PATH Intl. certified. Executive director Stefanie Green is a PATH Intl. Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor and Equine Specialist in Mental Health and Learning. The instructor team listed on the website also includes Sue Adams, a PATH Intl. Advanced Instructor and PATH faculty member and evaluator, and PATH Intl. Registered Instructors Doreen Innella and Sharon Garland-Sweeten. Horses are matched to each rider by size and motion.
