More about this center

About the Program

According to its website, all equine-assisted activities are led by a PATH Intl. professional, and the center lists PATH Intl. Premier Accreditation. Weekly therapeutic riding lessons typically run about an hour and are tailored to each rider's goals. Carriage driving is offered as an adaptive activity, and the center has a wheelchair-adapted cart. The barn program is for people who are not ready to ride or drive, or who choose not to.

The veterans program serves veterans, active military and their families, combining grooming and horse handling with riding and carriage driving. The center lists partnerships with the Joseph Dwyer Peer-to-Peer Program and the STRIDE Wounded Warrior Program. Elders & Equines brings older adults to the farm for half-day visits, and the Mighty Minis, trained miniature horses, visit schools, nursing homes and libraries.

Horseplay, the summer program, runs in week-long sessions, Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., mixing mounted and unmounted horse activities with outdoor time, games and crafts.

The Horses and Staff

The center's herd page profiles 15 horses and ponies, from miniature horses and a Shetland pony to a Norwegian Fjord, who pulls the driving carts, and a Belgian draft horse. Executive Director Rachel Conaway is a PATH Intl. Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor. Founder Laura R. Corsun, a PATH Intl. certified riding and driving instructor, led the center until 2023 and continues to assist.

History

The farm began in the 1960s as a Hackney pony breeding operation run by Kenneth and Evelyn Harris. The Corsun family bought it in 2009, and the center became a nonprofit in 2013.
