More about this center

About the Program

Triple Play Farm says it has worked with horses and other animals as an alternative to traditional talk therapy since 2010. Every therapy session is co-led by a North Carolina licensed mental health professional and a certified equine specialist. The farm says it is a PATH Intl. Premier Accredited Center, and its equine specialists are certified through PATH Intl., Natural Lifemanship and/or EAGALA.

Sessions may include observing, leading, grooming and caring for the animals, groundwork and trick training. Mounted work is used only when there is a therapeutic reason, and no horse experience is needed. The farm describes its work as outpatient behavioral health services and says it is not a therapeutic riding program for people with physical disabilities. Individual, couples and family sessions typically last one hour, and group sessions about 90 minutes.

Equine-Facilitated Learning

For groups such as school classes, church groups, scouts and corporate staff, the farm offers non-clinical equine-facilitated learning focused on goals like communication, personal growth and team building. Sessions are led by at least one certified equine specialist and can run from a single full day to one hour a week for six weeks. Cost is about $30 per person per hour, as listed, and the farm will tailor proposals to a group's needs and budget.

The Staff

Founder and owner Kristen Batchelor, MA, LCMHCA, is a PATH Intl. Certified Equine Specialist and Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor. The team also includes therapist Cait Allison, MSW, LCSW, and program director Tracy Byrnes, a PATH Intl. Equine Specialist and Therapeutic Riding Instructor. As a for-profit business, the farm does not use volunteers.

Location

The farm is at 8864 Wright Road, Kannapolis, NC 28081, between Davidson, Mooresville and Kannapolis, behind a stone gated entrance with white farm fencing. The farm asks that people not visit without an appointment.
