More about this center
About the Program
In-Stride says its riding is tailored to each rider. Riders start as young as 2, and there is no exit age, so students can keep riding into adulthood and adults with disabilities are welcome. All-inclusive lessons let therapeutic riders spend time with typical riders.
The center lists an equine-assisted psychotherapy program for people with mental and emotional health needs, and it fields a Special Olympics equestrian team. The Pink Helmets Club gives cancer survivors time to relax and connect with horses, and the center also serves veterans. See our guide to equine therapy for veterans.
Students and Volunteers
In-Stride runs a summer camp that teaches horse skills and care, and advanced students can spend a summer experience week caring for the horses. Volunteers can take lessons in riding and horse handling and care at reduced or no cost.
History and Horses
Dana Flaherty founded In-Stride in 2006 with one student and a pony, and she leads it as CEO and program director. The program began at Coventry Equestrian Center in Hickory and moved to its Valley View Road site in 2012. The center aims to take in horses from auctions and kill pens and train them for lessons.
