About the Program
John and Deborah McCain founded Stoneybrook Foundation in Acme in 2008. Its stated mission is to improve the lives of children and adults with disabilities through a therapeutic partnership with horses. Paula Cinti is the executive director.
According to its website, lessons are planned around each student's goals and written by PATH Intl. registered therapeutic riding instructors, so progress can be tracked. Getting Started
New students or their caregivers complete intake paperwork, which includes releases from medical professionals and diagnostic information, and then schedule an intake evaluation with the executive director by emailing info@stoneybrookfoundation.org. The foundation says lessons are subsidized to keep costs low for families. Scholarships are available, and families who need help with the cost can apply.
Veteran Sessions
Veterans can take part through a Wounded Warrior Project referral. A veteran or family member registers with WWP and asks its Resource Center for a referral to equine-assisted services at a PATH Intl. center. Volunteering
Volunteers serve as side-walkers, horse leaders, and barn and facility helpers. No horse experience is needed, and the foundation provides training. A volunteer application form can be downloaded from its website.
