The Texas Tech Therapeutic Riding Center (TTRC) is part of Texas Tech University's Department of Animal and Food Sciences in the Davis College, based at the Texas Tech Equestrian Center in Lubbock. About the Program
According to its website, TTRC was founded in 1998 and has served nearly 5,000 people. In hippotherapy sessions, trained physical, occupational and speech therapists use the horse's movement as part of a treatment plan. The site lists conditions such as cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, autism, multiple sclerosis and stroke.
Adaptive horsemanship is therapeutic riding taught under PATH Intl. guidelines, with each rider assessed by a Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor. The center says it holds 60 to 75 lessons a week. Facilities include a sensory trail with a bridge, trees and a hill, and a fully enclosed 100 by 200 foot arena.
Fees and Funding
TTRC does not accept insurance. As listed on its website, families pay at most $75 for a 30-minute hippotherapy session and at most $50 for a therapeutic riding session, with donors covering the rest of the cost. Supporters can also sponsor one of the center's horses.
Volunteering
The center lists more than 65 volunteers who help with weekly sessions and outreach events, including leading horses and side walking. No horse experience is required, and a sign-up form is on its website.

How do I enroll?
