More about this center
About the Program
The website describes Calvin Center as a PATH Intl. Premier Accredited Center, with lessons led by PATH Intl. certified instructors and assisted by trained volunteers. Lessons are tailored to each rider's goals and can complement IEPs and therapy plans. A typical lesson includes a warm-up and stretching, a riding skill, a game or activity on horseback, and cool-down exercises.
The Horses & Warriors program offers mounted and unmounted activities for wounded warriors and meets on Fridays, according to the program page. See our guide to equine therapy for veterans.
Getting Started
The program runs four sessions from September through May, with summer set aside for Camp Calvin. New riders call the center to discuss needs and eligibility, complete the rider paperwork, and attend an assessment with the Equine Director that covers orientation, horse selection and the level of support needed. Riders then sign up for a session by email.
Volunteering
Volunteers serve as horse leaders and sidewalkers, care for horses and equipment, and help with facilities, fundraising and trail work. The center holds volunteer trainings throughout the year.
Location
The program is based at Calvin Center, 13550 Woolsey Road, Hampton, GA 30228. The website describes a 536-acre property with a lake, forests, meadows and walking trails, about twenty miles south of Atlanta's airport.
