About the Program
According to its website, therapeutic riding at Ivey Ranch is open to riders ages 4 and up with physical conditions such as cerebral palsy, MS or spina bifida, and cognitive conditions such as autism, Down syndrome and ADHD. Lessons run once a week in 6-week sessions, led by certified instructors, with volunteer sidewalkers when the evaluation shows a rider needs them.
The ranch also lists Equine Assisted Counseling, delivered by a licensed professional (LCSW, MFT or psychologist) working with an equine specialist. Getting Started
New riders complete an online Riding Interest Application. When a spot opens, the ranch asks for a full application with a physician's statement, followed by a private evaluation lesson.
Horses for Heroes is free for active-duty service members and veterans of any age or branch, according to the ranch. It runs one hour a week for 6 weeks and starts with a military application packet.
