About the Program
Equuvation was founded in late 2016. Its website says it provides services and program development in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Tennessee, Georgia and Pennsylvania.
Equine-facilitated psychotherapy sessions are led by a treatment team of a licensed mental health clinician and a certified equine specialist. The center lists EFP for clients age 8 and up and suggests nature-based talk therapy or play therapy for younger children. Intakes may last up to 90 minutes and ongoing sessions run about 60 minutes. Sessions may include handling, grooming, groundwork, round pen work and daily horse care, and no horse experience is needed.
Therapeutic horsemanship combines groundwork with mounted therapeutic riding in private or semi-private sessions, progressing from communication skills and horse care to grooming, tacking, foundational vaulting, riding and trail rides. The Horse+Harbor program offers free equine-assisted retreats for veterans.
The Horses and Staff
Janice Kiley, LCSW, is the clinical director and a certified HERD EFP practitioner. According to its website, the team includes PATH Intl. Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructors and Equine Specialists in Mental Health and Learning, and two clinicians and four equine specialists are certified in Natural Lifemanship. The center describes itself as a PATH Intl. Member Center.
The 524-acre ranch has a 6-stall Observation and Learning Barn, an 80 x 200 covered arena, an outdoor obstacle course, round pens and the 3-mile Discovery Trail with 26 sensory stations. The herd includes horses, donkeys, goats, chickens and ducks.

Families start by submitting the Program Eligibility form on the Join as a Client page. The team says it replies to email inquiries within 24 to 48 hours on business days with available days, times and any waitlist estimate. Availability is limited, and therapeutic horsemanship has a waiting list.
EFP sessions and intakes are $165 per hour, as listed. Most clinicians are private pay, and the center can provide a receipt for insurance reimbursement, which is not guaranteed. Scholarships are not guaranteed, and families who need help with the cost can apply.
