The Horses

History
Founders Louie and Laurie Castriota first planned a therapeutic riding center. After their daughter Brooke was diagnosed with mitochondrial disease, they expanded the plan into a center offering coordinated, accessible therapy for children with special needs. Leg Up Farm opened in 2010.
Getting Started
Referrals can come from doctors, hospitals, teachers, community agencies or family members. After a referral, staff build a client profile and complete an assessment, and therapy begins once caregivers approve the recommended intervention plan. New families can fill out the new client form on the center's website.

Does insurance cover equine services at Leg Up Farm?
The center accepts most commercial insurance and several Medicaid plans for its clinical therapies, but says equine services are not covered by insurance.
