The Center for Therapeutic Riding of the East End (CTREE) is a nonprofit therapeutic riding organization located at 58 Daniel’s Lane in Sagaponack, New York, on the eastern end of Long Island.
CTREE is the only PATH International Premier Accredited Center in Suffolk County, New York — a distinction that reflects both the quality of its programming and the geographic gap it fills in one of the most underserved areas for therapeutic equestrian services in the state.
The organization’s mission is straightforward and well-realized: transforming lives through the therapeutic power of horses.
About This Program
CTREE provides therapeutic riding lessons and equine-assisted services to children and adults with cognitive, physical, and emotional disabilities. Every participant is evaluated individually before their program begins, with input gathered from parents, caregivers, educators, and therapists. From that evaluation, individual goals and objectives are created and periodically reviewed to ensure the participant is progressing and receiving the best possible service.
Lessons are taught by PATH International certified instructors following PATH guidelines, with specially trained program horses and volunteer staff supporting each session. Private, semi-private, and group lesson formats are available, accommodating both individual therapeutic goals and group learning experiences.
Horsemanship and ground lessons are also offered — working with horses on the ground rather than mounted — for participants whose goals or physical conditions are better addressed through non-riding activities such as groundwork, horse care, and horse behavior study.
CTREE also extends its reach through educational field trips for local school groups, introducing school-aged children to horses and the world of equine-assisted services. Veterans, first responders, active military personnel, and essential workers and their families are served through a dedicated equine-assisted activities program, recognizing the broader community for whom the therapeutic power of horses is meaningful.
The horses at CTREE are sourced from local connections across the East End — several are on loan from owners in Bridgehampton, Montauk, and the surrounding Hamptons area — reflecting the organization’s deep integration with its community. The herd is carefully selected for temperament and suitability for therapeutic work, and individual horses develop genuine bonds with CTREE riders and staff over time.

What Makes Them Unique
CTREE’s position as the sole PATH Premier Accredited Center in all of Suffolk County is significant. Suffolk County spans the majority of Long Island east of New York City — a large geographic area with a substantial population — and for families on the East End in particular, CTREE fills a gap that would otherwise leave them without access to the highest quality therapeutic riding services without a lengthy commute.
The organization has also developed a fundraising identity that reflects its Hamptons community, partnering with venues such as Sebonack Golf Club, Tutto il Giorno, and Ralph Lauren for events that mobilize the area’s philanthropic resources on behalf of riders with disabilities. That community embeddedness gives CTREE a distinctive sustainability model while keeping its programs accessible and affordable regardless of participants’ financial backgrounds.
For families from Bridgehampton to Montauk seeking PATH Premier therapeutic riding on Long Island’s East End, CTREE is the defining option.
